ABOUT

Three decades in production.

Silicon Valley and Silicon Alley.

Experience at companies that helped build the internet, across ISPs, entertainment, and advertising. Our focus today is AI infrastructure: the platforms models train and serve on, and agents built to solve each company's problems.

FOUNDER

BJ Badyk

Founder and Principal Engineer

BJ started in 1995 at CyberTours, one of the first ISPs in southern Maine, while still in high school. In the late 1990s he and a group of friends moved out to Silicon Valley, where he worked for XO Communications. From there it was Richmond, Virginia, for enterprise banking systems, and then Chicago, for entertainment platforms at Playboy and an open market insurance platform at GoHealth.

Then came nearly 13 years at Nexxen (formerly Tremor Video) in New York City, leading the infrastructure engineering team behind a platform processing millions of requests per second. There he led the migration of significant workloads to Kubernetes and moved observability to the Grafana LGTM stack, at more than 30 million active series.

These days he is spending more time back in the Bay Area for AI work. At Crashloop he leads every engagement hands on, from hardware selection to gateway design to the agents that run on top.

A strong open source advocate, BJ presented "When Latency and Cost Matter: Unleashing Kubernetes in the Datacenter" at TalosCon 2023, and was interviewed on the Kubernetes for Humans podcast.

Away from the keyboard: synthwave music, humanoid robots, self-driving vehicles, hacking on ham radios, getting lost in the woods, and working out how to make all of this compute carbon neutral.

PARTNERS

Good company.

Crashloop is a small shop by design. For some work we team up with people we have known and trusted for years.

James Luedke

Founder, Epoch Seconds
AI/ML consulting specializing in content moderation, privacy, and freedom.

James has been writing software since 1998, with a background in high volume messaging, distributed systems, and machine learning. Along the way he has published open source work of his own. He was the architect of Craigslist's spam mitigation and abuse system, and has deep experience with classifiers and abuse detection. That work goes back more than fifteen years, to a distributed spam filtering engine he took over early in his career. Today he is the founder of Epoch Seconds, an independent company and a close partner of Crashloop, where his specialty is writing custom agents. He's deeply passionate about keeping the internet, and AI, open, private and free.

They are both alumni of XO Communications.
